A Word of Encouragement

A Word of Encouragement

Begin with 2 minutes of stillness and silence before God.

In this passage, we see a group seeking some encouraging words from Paul and Barnabas. The word given was the entire timeline of how God has patiently and persistently shown Himself to His fallen creation. I say "fallen creation" because in the beginning of God’s Word, Genesis, we see where God created a perfect world, one where He was fully connected with His creation, specifically Adam and Eve. Then as we continue to read the Book of Genesis, we discover the fall of Adam and Eve was a result of disobeying God’s command and in turn breaking their perfect connection.

This is where Paul picks up by reminding everyone how God moved through His people, provided for His people, and most importantly fulfilled His promise to His people by providing a Messiah, the Savior of the world. There are two specific verses that Paul recites that are the most encouraging to the people he is speaking to, and I hope they are encouraging to us too.

Acts: 13:32-33 says, “We tell you the good news: What God promised our fathers he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus.”

Acts: 13:38-39, “Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through HIM everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses.”

Hold fast to the thought that your sins are forgiven. When God sees you, He does not see your sin when we have accepted and given our lives to knowing, loving, and following Jesus Christ. We are fully forgiven and purified! Secondly, we become children in the family of God. By the resurrection of Jesus Christ, not only has He fulfilled the Law of Moses given to the Jewish people, but, through Jesus, everyone who calls on His name and believes in Him is justified! In other words, we are found innocent, free of any past, present, and future accusations of not belonging to God’s Family. God sees us as He first created us to be, His children.

Think about this for a moment and take it with you throughout the day. God, Our Father, Creator of all the universe - He knows you by name. He loves you more than anyone has ever loved you and wants to spend time with you! When we accept this truth and believe it, we will be given His Holy Spirit and eternity in Heaven! The Holy Spirit is a guide, counselor, and our forever connection to God. Hollywood could never depict Heaven as it truly is! The best way I can picture that is by thinking of my best day on earth and multiplying that experience infinitly! It will simply be an AMAZING time and place where we get to experience the everlasting fullness of His love, care, and completion forever!

Take 2 minutes to reflect in silence.
Reflection:
  • Take some time today and picture yourself sitting with Jesus. Be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10). Allow His Spirit to envelop you and calm your soul. Sit and enjoy His presence.
  • Re-read Acts 13:38-39 and think about the fact that you are free of any guilt or shame of sin. If you are struggling to do this, I encourage you to share with a trusted friend, pastor, or family member any shame, guilt, or sin that may be causing you to hold on and not let go. Be completely vulnerable and ask them to pray with you.
