The Joy of the Lord

The Joy of the Lord

Author: Ty Park
Oct 14, 2024 | Psalms 16

Begin with two minutes of stillness and silence before God.

Psalms 16 is such a good reminder of God’s faithfulness in our lives.  The writer of Psalm expresses deep trust in the Lord, declaring that God is his portion and his cup. This speaks to the idea that God is enough for us—more than any material possession or earthly relationship. “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence, there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalms 16:11) This verse emphasizes that true joy and fulfillment come from being in God’s presence. In a world that often distracts us with temporary pleasures, we are reminded to seek joy in the Lord.

When I read this passage of Scripture, I'm reminded of a song that I used to listen to a lot back in college. It goes like this, “I want more of you, God. There is no place I would rather be, no place I would rather be, than here in your love”. This reminds me that there is truly nothing that compares or nothing that will truly satisfy us other than Jesus.

Take two minutes to reflect in silence.
Reflection:
  • Choose a time this week on your own or as a family to spend in nature. As you walk or sit in a park, take a moment to reflect on the beauty of creation. Use this time to share what you’re thankful for and how you see God’s presence in your lives. Each person can share a way they’ve experienced joy recently.
  • Prayer: Lord, thank You for being our safe place and THE source of joy. Help us to remember that You guide us and provide for our every need. As we go through our week, may we seek Your presence and trust in Your goodness. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
