Begin with 2 minutes of silence and stillness before God.
Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you today with a grateful heart. We are grateful to have the ability to sit with you and grow in our knowledge of who you are. Who are we, that you would desire a relationship with us? We sit with you today only wanting you. I pray against distraction and for a clear mind today. Help us hear your voice through Your Word today.
Ok, picture this with me. It's the 4th quarter with only 2 seconds left in the game. Your favorite team needs a touchdown to win but only has time for one more play. How are you feeling at this moment? Are you confident that they are going to win or do you lose hope? When the situation isn’t looking good, how strong is your faith?
In Romans 4, we see Paul referring to the father of faith himself, Abraham. Over and over again in scripture, we see Abraham in situations that were not in his favor. It didn’t matter what was thrown his way, his faith was not shaken! See verses 19-20: “He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. No unbelief made him waver concerning the Promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave the glory to God."
Abraham knew what it was like to be in a tough situation, or in what seemed like an impossible situation. We see that Abraham’s faith was not diminished because of his circumstances. His faith got stronger. He kept his focus on the promise of God and had faith in believing what God had promised!
When the going gets tough, what happens to your faith?
My prayer for us is for an unshakeable faith! One that is built on a firm foundation and the rock that won’t move - Jesus Christ!
Take 2 minutes to reflect in silence.
Reflection:
- Pray for God to grow your faith and make it unshakeable.
Family Devos: Romans 4

Today in our devotional we hear about a special man named Abraham. You may remember hearing about him earlier this year. Abraham believed in God, and because of his faith, he became a very important person in God's plan. Do you know what faith is? It is believing things even though we may not be able to see them. Romans 4 says that Abraham's good actions did not make him right with God. It was actually his faith that made him right with God. Can you believe that? While doing good things was important, that isn’t what made him right with God! It was his FAITH!
Heart
Just like Abraham, when we believe in God and trust Him, we become close to Him too. Abraham's faith was like a strong bridge connecting him to God's love and forgiveness. This bridge of faith is available to you and me.
Hands
Prayer: Lord, I pray that You would help me to have faith like Abraham. Help me to believe in Your promises and to trust in Your goodness. I know that I am not perfect, but I know that through faith in You, I can be saved. Thank You for Your grace and love.
