Begin with 2 minutes of stillness and silence before God.
When Timmy and I got married 15 years ago, I printed Psalm 34:3 on our wedding favors as the final piece of our desire to welcome our community into the worship of God through our marriage. Every detail of our wedding was intentional – people who modeled marriages we admired were in our wedding party, people who had invested in our faith journey were included in the ceremony and every single person who attended was invited to look above and beyond us to the One who was worthy of our worship.
And now, for 15 years, I believe we have glorified the Lord and exalted His name TOGETHER!
What a beautiful picture – for relationships and for biblical communities. The glory of our God is best celebrated with others.
These seven verses can all stand alone as prayers for our days, our relationships, and even our lives. May these be true of us as believers and as members of a faith family seeking to honor Christ in our lives.
Because, as we desire these verses to be true for US, they testify to the truth of Who GOD is!
- God is worthy to be praised
- He cares for the afflicted and gives them reason to rejoice
- He answers His people
- He delivers us from our fears
- He removes our shame and replaces it with the radiance of His glory
- He saves us and delivers us
Take 2 minutes to reflect in silence.

Head
In today’s reading, David is pretending to be crazy so Abimelek will send him away. This chapter is written like a Hebrew poem. David begins by sharing how much God means to him. He calls for others to glorify the Lord with him. David shares how God has answered him, taken his fears away, and saved him from his troubles. David describes the faces of those who look to the Lord as radiant and have no shame. David wants others to know that the angel of God surrounds those who call on the Lord and helps them.
Heart
David’s life was in danger as he continued to share about God. Can you imagine living in a time and place where you were in danger if you talked about all God has done for you? He shares boldly about seeking God and how He answered. Do you share with your friends all God is doing for you and your family? David talks about the radiance of those talking to God. Can you think of anyone who seems to glow with peace and joy when they pray to God?
Hands
God used David to share His glory and grace. Today look for opportunities to share God with others around you. If you see someone who seems sad or left out, take the time to talk with them and encourage them.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for giving us the story of David and his love for you. David was willing to share about You even when it placed him in danger. Help us to see opportunities to share with others about Your magnificence. In Jesus’ name, amen.
