Head
One day, an expert of the law tried to test Jesus; he asked Jesus what he needed to do to inherit eternal life. Instead of answering the man’s question, Jesus told a story, called a parable, about a man who was attacked by robbers when he was traveling. The robbers beat him up and left him lying on the road to die when a priest walked by. Instead of helping the man, the priest crossed to the other side of the road. Next, a Levite man came to the place where the beaten man was, and he crossed to the other side just like the priest before him. Finally, a Samaritan was traveling down the road and came across the beaten man; he immediately took pity on the man and began bandaging his wounds. The Samaritan put the man on his own donkey and brought him to an inn and took care of him.
Heart
After Jesus told this story to the expert of the law, he asked him which of the three men was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers. Of course, the man said the Good Samaritan, the one who had mercy on the beaten man. So, Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” Jesus wants us to take care of the people who are in need, just like He does.
Hands
How can you be like the Good Samaritan this week? Who can you help that others might have ignored or walked right by? Talk with your family about a time someone was a Good Samaritan to you. How did it make you feel when someone shared Jesus’ love with you when it wasn’t expected? What can you do to make someone else feel that way this week?
Prayer: Jesus, we pray that You make our hearts like the Samaritan man. Show us someone in need that we can share Your love and kindness with. Thank You for loving us, we love You. In your name, we pray, amen.
