Read 3 John 1

Head

God is happy to see us being faithful to follow Him.

This entire chapter is a letter to John’s friend about his faithfulness to live in a way that honors God.

Our parents are super proud when they see us doing the right thing. Just like they feel, God feels even more proud to see us living in His Word and doing what is right.

Heart

One thing that John says to his friend, Gaius, in this letter is that He is proud of the way his friend shows love and hospitality by being kind and welcoming to others, even strangers. Do you notice friends in school who are alone? Maybe they don’t have friends or don’t know how to make friends. How can you show God’s love to them? This chapter cautions us about other people who are mean and selfish and do not follow God. We are challenged by God’s Word to be kind and loving even when others are not.

Hands

Discuss with your family some other people you see who give love and kindness freely. They are mirroring God’s love and showing us how we are to live. We like it when our parents tell us that they are proud of us. Imagine the beautiful sunshine on a beautiful day as God is smiling down on us for doing the right thing even when others don’t. He is proud of us, and we can walk in faith knowing this.

Prayer: Dear God, we want to live our lives to make You proud. When we see others being selfish and mean, it pricks our hearts to remind us to be different. Help us to live our lives to show others what makes You proud. We want to love others the way that You love us. Amen.
