Read John 20-21
Head
Yesterday, we read about Jesus’ suffering and eventual death. Today, our reading covers some amazing events that took place next- Jesus’ return! Yes, Jesus died on the cross and was buried in a tomb. But, when Mary Magdalene, Peter, and John each came to the tomb where Jesus’ body was left, they found the stone rolled away and the tomb empty. Even though John did not see Jesus, he found an empty tomb, and he believed that Jesus was alive. Jesus approached Mary Magdalene, and even though she did not recognize him by his appearance, she believed that she was speaking to Jesus. Jesus then came to the place of His disciples. One of the disciples, Thomas, was not with the others when Jesus came. When the disciples told Thomas that Jesus was alive, he refused to believe without seeing Him, without proof. Eight days later, Jesus came to Thomas, showing Himself to him and stating, “Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!”
Heart
Do you have a hard time believing something that you have not seen? Can you see the air that you breathe? Not usually, but we are constantly breathing it, right? Can you see gravity? Well, of course not, but it keeps you on the ground! Can you see the flu? Not with your regular ole eyeballs, but you certainly believe it exists if you have ever gotten sick with the flu! When you turn off the lights in your room, does the darkness mean that your room is now empty? No! There are things in life that we believe, even if we don’t see them. John 20:29 says, “Then Jesus told him, ‘You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.’” We have not yet seen Jesus, but we are blessed because we believe!
Hands
When we believe in Jesus and know, love, and follow Him, it is our job to tell others about Him. In John 21, Jesus tells His disciples to “feed my lambs,” “shepherd my sheep,” “feed my sheep,” and “follow me.” Here, Jesus is telling his disciples (and us!) to take care of others, love others, and teach them about Jesus. Who can you tell about Jesus and His love this week?
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, You are so amazing. Thank You for the resurrection of Jesus. Help me to always remember and believe that You are always working, Your plans are good, and Your love will never end. Help me to share Your love with others. Amen.
