Read John 11

HEAD

In today’s scripture, Jesus continues to speak in parables as His time on earth draws to a close. He uses the story of a good shepherd to show how He knows His followers and cares for them. The gate shows how we can come to Him. Some of the Jews believed and followed, while others doubted. In Chapter 11, we are told of Lazarus's death and how Jesus called him out of the tomb. Jesus comforts Mary and Martha. Verse 35 is the shortest verse of the Bible (”Jesus wept.” John 11:35).

HEART

In these two chapters of John, Jesus is preparing His followers for the time after He is gone. I think I may have been confused by the parable of the Good Shepherd if I had been living at that time, unless I was a shepherd and understood how the sheep were kept safe. However, because Jesus often used parables, we are blessed to see His meaning in this story. The story of Lazarus' death leaves no doubt about Jesus’ ability to work miracles! When you see how Jesus mourned with Mary and Martha, it shows us how much Jesus loved His followers. How much He loves us!

HANDS

Think about an opportunity you might have to share these stories with others. Can you think of anyone in particular to share with? Talk about verse 11:36 and then memorize it together.

Prayer: God, thank You for loving us enough to send Your Son to die for us. Thank You for allowing us to learn from His parables and miracles. Thank You for the blessings of Your Word. We love You, God. Amen.
