Head: Know God's Word | Heart: Love God | Hands: Follow God's Way
Read Acts 11-12
Head
These two chapters of Acts remind us that God is the creator of all. God is where our opinions, thoughts, and actions should begin. But in this broken world, we tend to think we know what is best for us and what is best for others. We see in Isaiah 55:8 that the Lord must be constantly correcting us: “’ For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord.” We must work toward the end goal of making disciples and showing the love of God to whomever He puts in our path.
Heart
So why do we put up so many roadblocks and excuses to reaching others for Jesus? Are we afraid of those who are different? If God created them, then He must want them in His kingdom, right? I love watching the show, The Chosen. It gives me a Bible-times perspective and helps me to realize that Jesus was accessible to everyone in His path. Why did his followers think they knew better? Fear or maybe lack of faith in just what God can do? There will always be people out there that we don’t understand, but that doesn’t give us the right to exclude them because they are different from us.
Hands
What can you do this week to reach out to someone who is different than you? One way is to remember that Jesus sent us a helper after He ascended to Heaven. The Holy Spirit motivates us to further God’s kingdom. So, the next time you get that feeling or urge to do something out of your comfort zone, remember the Holy Spirit is there to help you be more like Jesus. So step out in faith and produce a friendly smile; maybe ask how someone is doing or engage in their lives with God-like curiosity. Step out in faith with the Holy Spirit being your guide.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, help us to honor all that You made and consider it good. Help us not boast about how we do something over someone else, keep us humble, and help us respect Your will and Your ways. Let us be a light to all those You have made and then see just how You work in their hearts. We love You and honor You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
