Head: Know God's Word | Heart: Love God | Hands: Follow God's Way
Read Matthew 11:25-30
“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” - Matthew 11:29-30
Head
Imagine playing on a sports team. All four of my kids played soccer as a team sport in high school and my daughter got to play soccer in college as well. No matter how skilled my kids were, they couldn’t have won a game on their own. They needed the support of their teammates. Life is a lot like this. We aren’t meant to face challenges alone, and thankfully, we don’t have to. God, who is gentle and trustworthy, offers His support to help carry our loads and to help us in every situation! Instead of having the prideful mindset of “I got this”, we get to say “WE got this” because God is our ever-present help in times of trouble, and He will never leave us. He is the best person to have on your team!
Heart
When we let God into our lives and on our team, we find that His strength becomes ours. Imagine you have a big box of toys to carry; when your friend helps you, it feels much lighter, right? Jesus is that friend who wants to help you carry your heavy stuff. This doesn’t mean life will be without difficulties, but it does mean we have a dependable friend who walks alongside us. I envision Jesus saying, “HELP ME, HELP YOU.” He wants us to ask Him for help!
Hands
Living out Matthew 11:29-30 in our everyday lives means seeking Jesus' guidance and willingly sharing our problems with Him instead of having an “I got this” mindset. Here are some steps to live out this scripture:
- Praying: Regularly pray and ask God for help. He is always there to help, even with those knots you feel in your stomach. Whether it is about things like an upcoming test, a difficult friendship, or a tough teacher. He wants you to ask for His help! Allow Him to help you navigate your way through difficult circumstances.
- Scripture Study: Use the Bible Reading Plan to learn more about Jesus' gentle and humble heart. As parents, we need to evaluate our own spiritual life and strengthen the weak areas so we can help our children do the same.
Prayer: Dear God, we come to You asking for help. We acknowledge that we cannot do this alone, and we recognize our need for help. We claim your strength and goodness over our lives. We know that in You, we find grace to help in times of need. In the name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.
