Read Matthew 17:22-23
Head
In today’s passage from Matthew 17:22-23, Jesus and His disciples are gathered in the town of Galilee. Jesus tells the disciples, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life.” This is the second time Jesus predicted His death to the disciples, but they still did not believe Him! In fact, Scripture says they were filled with grief, so we know they couldn’t understand that the resurrection was coming after His death! Resurrection means being raised from the dead or brought back to life- the disciples could not understand that His death only meant His resurrection was coming!
Heart
Jesus had to remind His disciples three different times that His death was coming… three times; and they still did not believe it and even forgot about it until after He was resurrected. Luke 24:6 tells us, “He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you Galilee.” Jesus did not want the disciples to be surprised by His death or resurrection, and He wants us to know all about it, too! Jesus died for our sins!
Hands
Jesus had patience with the disciples as he shared His resurrection story with them. He knew they couldn’t believe it and wouldn’t remember it, but He kept sharing it anyway. That’s how important His resurrection was! Talk about the power in Jesus’ death and resurrection with your families this week. Is there a friend or classmate you can share His story with today?
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for sending Your Son to die on the cross for our sins. Thank You for giving us His living example to strive to be like every day. Forgive us when we fall short. We are amazed at Your power, Jesus. In Your name, we pray. Amen.
