Read Matthew 9-10

Head

In Matthew 9, we see that Jesus is performing miracles for many different people. He heals a paralyzed man, a woman who was sick for twelve years, two blind men, a man who was mute, and he raises a girl from the dead. Someone in each of these stories needed to have faith in Jesus. In chapter nine, Jesus asks Matthew to follow him, which leads us to chapter ten, where Jesus speaks to His disciples about what they should expect from people who do not understand their faith. Jesus tells them they will be persecuted, so they will have to be faithful (trust Him) and not fear when these bad things happen to them.

Heart

We must have faith that God will bring us through any situation, bad or good. Faith in God is similar to how we trust our guardian will take care of us. We know that they will provide food and a place to stay so we can be safe. When bad days happen, they are there to help us through them. Jesus performed these miracles because someone in the story had faith in him. The paralyzed man had faith that if he stood up, he could walk. The girl’s father had faith that Jesus could raise his daughter from the dead. The woman who was sick for twelve years had faith that if she could touch just the fringe of his garment, she would be healed. The two blind men had faith in Jesus and believed they would see again. The people who brought the mute man to Jesus had faith in him. Each disciple had to have faith in Jesus when he asked them to follow him.

Hands

Share with your family a time when you had to have faith in Jesus to pull you through a bad day or bad situation. How did you feel when you had faith in Jesus? Discuss some ways you can have faith in Jesus in the future.

Prayer: Dear God, please help me to consistently have faith in you and help me know that I am safe with you. Please help us be brave in the bad times and help us remember that you are always there. Amen.
