Read Galatians 2:20

Head:

We are starting a new book of the Bible today – Paul’s letter to the church in Galatia! The first 2 chapters of Galatians are jam-packed with truth and wisdom. If you read yesterday’s family devotional, we talked about how God gives us authority and influence in order to build others up, not tear them down. I think the book of Galatians is a wonderful example of Paul speaking difficult truth to people he loves in order to point them back to Jesus. He is bold, but his desire is for restoration and freedom for this church. The main truth he is trying to remind the Galatians of is that “man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ.”

Heart:

Paul is very concerned that Galatians are beginning to believe that they have to earn their salvation with good works and observation of the law. He wants them to remember that Jesus did the work and paid the price for our salvation on the cross. As Jesus said in John 6:29, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one He has sent.” Jesus does the work to save us and sanctify us, making us more like Himself. Paul sums it up beautifully when he says in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

Hands:

Do you ever feel like you need to earn God’s love or approval?

Take a moment to talk to God about this and thank Him for the free gift of salvation.
