Read 2 Timothy 1:7
Head
What is your biggest fear? Is it the dark? Being left alone? Spiders? Heights? Needles? Fear is something that we all face, but as followers of Jesus, we do not have to let fear control us.
Heart
2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and self-discipline.” See, right there in Scripture, we are reminded that fear was not given to us by God. If we are struggling with fear, it is not from Him. Instead, God gave us His Holy Spirit, which gives us power, love, and self-discipline. Power from the Holy Spirit is our courage. Love from the Holy Spirit allows us to trust that our loving God is taking care of us. Self-discipline from the Holy Spirit helps us to keep going, even when it’s scary. So, does this mean we will never be fearful? No, but if we remember these truths from Scripture, we can trust God will help us through our fears!
Hands
In 2 Timothy, Paul tells Timothy not to be afraid of telling others about Jesus. Sometimes, it can be scary or intimidating to speak up about our faith, pray aloud, or even tell someone about Jesus. This week, remember that God’s Holy Spirit gives you power and makes you strong. Use His power to give you the courage to share your faith or invite a friend to church with you on Sunday!
Prayer: Dear God, You are strong, powerful, and mighty. More powerful than any fear that I could imagine. Thank You for giving me Your Holy Spirit to help me through all my fears, worries, and tough times. Help me to turn to You when I am afraid. Please give me the courage to trust in You always. I love You, Amen.
