Read Psalms 131-132
Head
Do you ever listen to music while you are doing a task? Like, maybe you put in your earbuds and listen to your favorite songs while you do your chores? Or maybe you listen to background music while completing your homework? Or maybe you even make a special playlist for a family road trip? Well, Psalm 131 and 132 are a little like that! These chapters are two of the fifteen Psalms called Songs of Ascent. They were songs that the Jews would sing while they were making a trip to Jerusalem.
In Psalm 131, David shows us a picture of trusting God, even when our hearts feel busy or worried. Just like a little child rests in their mother’s arms, we should put our trust in God and rest in Him. This passage reminds us that we don’t have to understand everything or figure out every problem, but we can calm our hearts and minds and rest in God, because He will take care of us!
In Psalm 132, the writer explains how God made a promise to David. Verse 12 says, “... your royal line will continue forever.” God promised that someone from David’s family would be king forever. If you have been in Scouts or Navigators this semester, you will remember that God keeps His promises, even this one! This week, we are celebrating the birth of Jesus, and guess what- the promise that God made to David was fulfilled when Jesus was born! Jesus is the forever king from David’s family!
Heart
God keeps His promises, even if it takes time and even if we don’t understand how it will happen. When looking at some of the promises God has made to us (He won’t give up on you, He has a purpose for you, He has a plan for you, He will always remember you), which one do you need to trust Him with right now? Pray and trust God, rest in Him, and know that He always keeps His promises.
Hands
God kept His promise and sent Jesus, our king. Go and show Jesus’ love this week. Look for ways to share His promises.
Prayer: Thank You, God, for keeping Your promises. Help me rest in You because I know You love me and are with me. Thank You, our forever King, Jesus! Amen.
