Head

We read three big truths in Jude in verse 1 right off the bat, but we can skip right over them if we’re not careful. Verse 1 tells us that we are called, we are loved by God, and we are kept by Jesus Christ. That’s some powerful language! If you’re like me and you’ve ever wondered who you are or what your purpose is, this verse answers that for us. Who are we? We are called, loved, and kept. So, what does that even mean? Well, being called means we have been chosen by God to be a part of His family of believers. We are loved. This one may seem “simple,” but oh, how significant it is to be loved by God our Father! To be kept by Jesus Christ means we are under His protection. It doesn’t mean nothing bad will ever happen to us, but instead, we can trust that our salvation is secure by Him and through Him.

Heart

Jude was writing this letter to believers who were surrounded by people who weren’t following God. There was a lot of confusion at that time, because some of these people said they were followers of God, but they didn’t act like they were. Jude is reminding them (and us!) that our identity and security are found in God. He has put a calling on our lives that gives us purpose. He loves us with an everlasting love that is steady and unconditional. He watches over us and keeps hold of our hearts and salvation.

Hands

As a family, repeat aloud the three words from Jude 1:1: Called, loved, and kept. Write down these words (get creative!) and keep them somewhere you can see them, read them, and think about their meaning every day. End by reading Jude 1:24-25 together as a prayer of praise.

Prayer: Lord, we thank You for calling us, loving us, and keeping us. Help us to stand strong in our faith, live in Your love, and show mercy to others. We praise You because of who You are. We love You! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
