Read Matthew 12

Head

Matthew 12 begins with the Pharisees questioning Jesus about his actions on the Sabbath. The Pharisees were very strict followers of the rules. Since the commandment says to rest on the Sabbath, there were very few things that were allowed on the Sabbath. Though it’s important to follow the commandments, Jesus is most concerned about what is in our hearts. Jesus heals a man’s hand on the Sabbath because he cares for the man. He asks the Pharisees if one of their sheep fell into a hole on the Sabbath, would they help it? Of course they would because they care for the sheep. Jesus is showing us that we should show others His mercy and grace every day of the week. When we love Jesus, our actions follow. We want to do what is right. Matthew 12:35 says, “A good man says good things. These come from the good that is stored up inside him. An evil man says evil things. These come from the evil that is stored up inside him.” God knows our hearts. Our actions and words will reflect what is in our hearts. When we love Jesus, our actions help other people know Jesus’ love too.

Heart

When you look in a mirror, you see your reflection. Our words and actions work the same way. They show other people what is in our hearts. We should often pray about what is in our hearts so that our words and actions reflect Jesus.

Hands

In my home, we often discuss if our words and actions are helpful or hurtful. Think about your words today. Before you speak, consider if your words are helpful or hurtful.

Prayer: Lord, give me a heart that overflows with Your love. Help my words and actions come from You.
