Head: Know God’s Word | Heart: Love God | Hands: Follow God’s Way
Read James 3:1-18
Head
Have you ever squeezed a tube of toothpaste a little too much, and a lot of toothpaste came out? Did you try to get it to go back in the tube? It just doesn’t work! That’s so frustrating! Our words are just like that. Once we speak, we can’t put those words back in our mouths. James tells us that we can’t bless our Lord and Father and then turn around and curse people. The two just can’t go together.
Heart
As believers, our words should be life-giving! They should encourage and build others up not be unkind or harsh towards other. When our words glorify God, they also point others to Him. You wouldn’t want to be around someone who is mean to you and says ugly things. When we are kind, people are drawn to us. That in turn, draws them to Jesus!
Hands
Ask God to help tame your tongue. Ask Him to help you speak so other will see Jesus in you and to give you widsom from Him. Memorize James 3:17. “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.”
Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your wisdom. Thank You for giving me Your Word so that I can put it into practice and show You to others. God help me to tame my tongue. Help me to speak life-giving things to those around me. Help me to live out that wisdom from above. Amen.
