Head

Today’s devotion is from Proverbs 7.

“Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.” Proverbs 7:2-3 (NIV)

This verse encourages us to:

  • Value God’s wisdom deeply (like the “apple of your eye” – something precious and protected)
  • Keep it close (like tying it to your fingers or writing it on your heart)
  • Live by it (because it brings life and protection)
Heart

This verse gives us a picture of how much God wants us to treasure His word. To me, the verse encourages us to do what God wants us to do so that we can live. Keeping His word as the apple of your eye means that you will hold it close and will cherish it. You will allow it to be your guide to help you make wise choices. Finally, living by His word will bring you life and protection and will help guard your heart against temptation and foolish decisions.

  • What does it mean to treasure something?
  • How can you "write God’s word on your heart" today?
  • What’s one command or truth from the Bible that helps you stay wise?
Hands

Prayer: Dear God, we are so very thankful that you have given us Your Word so that we may treasure it. We know that living by Your commandments will help us make good decisions and keep us safe. God, thank You for allowing the Holy Spirit to live within our hearts to help guide and protect us. Amen.
