Read Galatians 4:21-31
Head
In Galatians 4:21-31, Paul is re-telling a story that comes from way back in the first book of the Bible, Genesis. In Genesis, God made a promise to Abraham. He promised to make Abraham a great nation, to bless him, to bless everyone on earth through Abraham and his family, to give Abraham a great land for his future kids to live on, and to give Abraham a big family. That sounds really great, right? Well, Abraham and his wife, Sarah, thought this promise sounded a bit hard to believe. They did not have any kids yet and Abraham was already over 70 years old! They waited many years for God to fulfill His promise until they impatiently decided to give up on God’s promise and trust in themselves instead of the promises of God. They thought if they tried hard enough, they could fulfill God’s promises by themselves. Abraham and Sarah tried to go around God’s timing and do things on their own rather than waiting on God. However, in the end, after many mistakes and years of waiting, Abraham and Sarah did in fact have a baby, just as God had promised. Even though it seemed impossible, God gave 100-year-old Abraham and 90-year-old Sarah a son, Isaac. Through Isaac, God would continue to grow and bless Abraham’s family and would keep all the promises He made to Abraham.
Heart
Abraham and Sarah wanted a baby so badly, but to wait so long was probably scary and sad. We can trust God when we are scared and sad. We can trust God always! What is something that you can trust God with today?
Hands
We can tell others that God always keeps His promises. Who can you tell this week that God keeps His promises?
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for keeping Your promises, even when we try to do things on our own. Thank You for loving me and knowing what is best for me. Help me put all my trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
