Read Acts 25-26
Head
At this point in Paul’s journey, he has been in prison for two years! Felix’s time as governor ended, and a new governor named Festus came on the scene. He traveled to Jerusalem, where the Jews who plotted against Paul were STILL talking about him. They still wanted to have him killed. Festus told them if they wanted to accuse Paul of anything, they would have to go to Caesarea to have a trial.
Back to Paul being surrounded by people who want him gone. The trial didn’t go that well. Festus knew Paul didn’t do anything to be punished, but he always wanted to make the Jews happy. So, he offers them to have another trial in Jerusalem. Paul knew God didn’t want him to go back to Jerusalem, so he asked to speak to the highest authority, which was Caesar. King Agrippa said that he wanted to hear Paul speak first, so he and his sister came to hear what Paul had to say. Paul told them what had happened and shared his testimony. King Agrippa could find no wrongdoings. Now, Paul gets ready to set sail for Rome to go before Caesar.
Heart
Paul keeps on persevering. He keeps patiently waiting, for two years, might I add, to see what God has for him next. Do you ever find yourself in seasons of waiting? It could be waiting for a grade on a test or waiting to see what the doctor said about a diagnosis. How do you feel during that time? It can be so hard not to worry and wonder if God is still there. Take heart! He is ALWAYS there! Silence doesn’t mean He doesn’t care. He hears every cry to Him. He’s there working everything out for your good and His glory. No promise of His had ever been broken. You can rest in that!
Hands
If you’re currently going through a season of waiting, take a minute to write down this verse.
“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:14
Memorize this verse this week. Let it be your comfort!
Prayer: God, thank You for always being with us in our seasons of waiting. When things seem hopeless and we’re frustrated, bring this verse to mind. Help us to be strong and have confidence in the work You’re doing! Amen.
