Message Notes

The Miracle is in the Water

Confidence is found in Our Creator, not our circumstances.

Joshua 1:1-3 ESV

After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant “Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses.

Faith is not the absence of fear; it’s the choice to be confident in the face of fear.

Joshua 1:10-11 ESV

And Joshua commanded the officers of the people “Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you are to pass over this Jordan to go in to take possession of the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.’”

Joshua 3:2-5 ESV

At the end of three days the officers went through the camp and commanded the people, “As soon as you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God being carried by the Levitical priests, then you shall set out from your place and follow it. Yet there shall be a distance between you and it, about 2,000 cubits in length. Do not come near it, in order that you may know the way you shall go, for you have not passed this way before.” Then Joshua said to the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you.”

I. The Preparation

God was on the move; the preparation was so they were ready to participate in what God was already doing.

The right thing at the wrong time is the wrong thing.

I. The Preparation

II. The Pursuit

Breakthroughs happen when we pursue God’s presence.

Obedience always comes before a miracle.

Today, obey.

We have to get in the water to find the work.

Joshua 4:4-7 ESV

Then Joshua called the twelve men from the people of Israel, whom he had appointed, a man from each tribe. And Joshua said to them, “Pass on before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take up each of you a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the people of Israelthat this may be a sign among you. When your children ask in time to come, ‘What do those stones mean to you?’then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever.”

III. The Picture

Mark the important moments.

Today’s victories are tomorrow’s confidence.

Faith is taking the first step when you can’t see the whole staircase.
