1. Read Luke 5:27-32 three to four times. Highlight the words or phrases that stand out to you. What about those words intrigued you?
2. Tax collectors were often hated because of their betrayal of the Jewish people and their allegiance to Rome. Yet Jesus specifically reached out to Levi (also called Matthew). What does this teach us about the gospel and the purposes of Jesus?
3. The topic we are studying this week is hospitality. In short, we might describe this concept in two ways. First, you want people in your home. Second, people want to be in your home. Is this true of you? If not, how can you grow in this area?
4. After dropping everything and following Jesus, Levi threw a party which included many tax collectors and irreligious people (“sinners” v. 30). How does this challenge your idea of hospitality? What can you learn from this and model it in your life?
5. Jesus is often seen sharing meals with sinners and unrighteous people. This is why He came (v.32; see also Matthew 11:19). What if we used meals to share the goodness of Jesus with others? What might this look like in your life? This week, you’ll consume roughly 21 meals; how can you use one of these for the kingdom?
