Capture and Confession | Craig Curtis

Your irresponsibility becomes someone else's responsibility.
Jonah 1:12a NIV
12 “Pick me up and throw me into the sea,” he replied, “and it will become calm.
When We Make a Bad Choice:
1. Take responsibility.
- "It's my fault; I shouldn't have said that; I didn't know you were so sensitive..."
(Translation: "Your feelings are the real issue here.")
- "It's my fault I forgot to get the milk; I thought you were gonna remind me."
(Translation: "This is 50% YOUR fault.")
- "It's my fault I forgot to pick up the kids – but don't you normally do that?"
(Translation: "You've got to manage us all better.")
Jonah 1:12 NIV
12 “Pick me up and throw me into the sea,” he replied, “and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you.”
"You are not a failure until you start blaming others for your mistakes." - Coach John Wooden
Proverbs 28:13 TLB
13 A man who refuses to admit his mistakes can never be successful. But if he confesses and forsakes them, he gets another chance.
Jonah 1:17a NIV
17 Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah...
Pain isn't always punishment.
When We Make a Bad Choice:
2. Pray and repent.
Jonah 2:1 NIV
1 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God.
Repentance means you change your mind so deeply that it changes you.
Jonah 2:1-2 NIV
1 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. 2 He said: “In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry.
Jonah 2:10 NIV
10 And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
Verse 1, Jonah prays; Verse 10, Jonah gets his miracle.
Don't stop praying.
Jonah 2:9 NIV
9 But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the Lord.’”
Start the praise before the provision.
When We Make a Bad Choice:
3. Embrace God's grace.
Jonah 3:1-2 NIV
1 Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time: 2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you.”
God's grace is greater.
Romans 8:1 NIV
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,
