Philippians 3:10 NIV

10 I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.

Philippians 3:12 NIV

12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

διώκω (dioko): pursue, persecute, hunt, chase

"…as for zeal, persecuting [διώκω] the church…" Philippians 3:6
"…I even hunted [διώκω] them down in foreign cities." Acts 26:11

Forgetting - Straining - Waiting

I. Forgetting

Philippians 3:13 NIV

13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.

Luke 15:20 MSG

When he was still a long way off, his father saw him. His heart pounding, he ran out, embraced him, and kissed him.

II. Straining

Philippians 3:13 NIV

13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,

III. Waiting

Philippians 3:14 NIV

14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward (upward) in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:18-19 NIV

18 For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things.

Philippians 3:20 NIV

20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,

"Aim at Heaven, and you will get earth 'thrown in'; aim at earth, and you will get neither."
C.S. Lewis

Philippians 3:21 NIV

21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
