Key Verse

Matthew 11:29 – “Become my servants and learn from me. I am gentle and free of pride. You will find rest for your souls.”

We have probably all been told to “be gentle.” Maybe you were petting an animal or touching a baby when you were told that you needed to “be gentle.” The picture that pops into my mind is a gentle, soft lamb. Jesus describes Himself as “gentle and free of pride.” Did you know that Jesus is the Lamb of God? Jesus is as gentle as a lamb. He was gentle with the children that ran to meet Him and learn from Him. He was gentle and kind to the women He talked to along His journey. Jesus was gentle with His disciples even when they were slow to learn and follow His ways. Treating others gently is being considerate of their feelings and their ways. When we follow Jesus, He changes our hearts to be more like His. That means we can be gentler in our spirit and how we interact with others. Jesus loved to serve others and treat them with gentleness. If we let Jesus teach us to “be gentle,” then we can rest knowing that God is growing fruit in our lives.

Reflection:

How can you show gentleness each day? Caring for people, animals, plants, and all that God has made is being gentle. Taking care of God’s creation is a wonderful way to show gentleness.

Prayer:

Yahweh, how good it is that You treat us with gentleness. Thank You, Lord! You care for everyone and want us to do the same. Please help us to “be gentle” with those around us. Help us to consider their feelings and try to understand them better. We ask these things in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
