Key Verse
2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
Self-control is a special gift that helps us make good choices and do the right thing. Sometimes making good choices is hard! When we practice self-control, we can get better at it, just like we get better at riding a bike or playing a game. God gave us self-control to help us live happy and healthy lives. It’s like having a shield that protects us from making bad decisions. Remember, it’s okay to ask for help when you’re struggling. Jesus showed self-control too, even when things were tough. Just like Jesus, we can pray and ask God to give us strength when we feel tempted. We might feel tempted to take something that doesn’t belong to us. We could feel tempted to say mean things to another person. We might even be tempted to spend too much time watching screens. Remember you can always pray and ask God to give you the self-control you need to make the best choices. God and the people who care about you are always there to support you. With self-control, you can do amazing things! We can be proud of the choices we make and become more like Jesus every day!
Reflection:
James chapter 1, verse 19 says “...Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” That is great advice! If we listen first and really hear what people are saying, we just might understand them a little better. If we ask Jesus to help us stay calm and not become too angry, then we are practicing self-control.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, we are so glad that You will help us to control our actions and choices. All we have to do is ask for Your help. Jesus, You showed us how to be quick to listen to others and carefully think before speaking to them. May we honor You when we practice controlling ourselves and our behaviors. In the Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
