Read Hebrews 2:10-18
Head
The book of Hebrews describes in detail how Jesus Christ not only fulfills the promises and prophecies of the Old Testament, but also how Jesus is better than everything in the Jewish system of thinking. In those times, God used many approaches to send His messages to people. He spoke to Isaiah in visions (Isaiah 6), to Jacob in a dream (Genesis 28:10-22), and to Abraham and Moses personally (Genesis 18; Exodus 32:18). God also spoke to people through prophets. But after the birth of Jesus, God spoke through His Son!
Jesus is God’s Son, and He is greater than the angels. He created the world, shines with God’s glory, and sits beside God in heaven. Angels are important, but they are still only servants under God. Jesus is King forever.
In chapter two, we’re told to pay close attention to what we’ve heard about Jesus, so we don’t drift away into false teachings or wrong thinking. Jesus became human like us so He could help us, save us, and understand what we go through. He died to defeat evil and take away our fear of death. Because He lived as a person like you and me, He knows how we feel, and He is always with us.
Heart
God, as Jesus, became a living, breathing human being. The Book of Hebrews points out many reasons why this is so important. Jesus is the perfect leader, and He wants to lead you. He is the perfect model, and He is worth imitating. Jesus is the perfect sacrifice, and He died for you. He is the perfect conqueror, and He conquered death to give you eternal life. And Jesus Christ is the perfect High Priest, and He is merciful, loving, and understanding.
Hands
What an amazing truth it is to know that Jesus, who is greater than the angels, was also human like you and me. He knew joy, disappointment, love, and sadness. The Bible tells us to always remember this truth and pay attention to all we hear and learn about Jesus, God’s One and Only Son. I know that paying attention is hard work. It involves focusing our minds, bodies, and hearts. Listening to Jesus means more than hearing. It also means obeying.
Have you ever been tempted to do something even if you knew it wasn’t right?
Take comfort in knowing Jesus understands what it is like to be tempted. Have courage because we don’t face struggles alone—Jesus is with us. Jesus cares enough to help us when life is tough. When we face temptation to lie, be unkind, or disobey, we can pray immediately and ask Jesus for help.
- Practice pausing before acting—take a breath and ask, “What would Jesus want me to do?”
- Encourage others by reminding them, “Jesus understands and will help you, too.”
- Next time you’re tempted, stop and say: "Jesus, help me do what’s right."
Let’s pray together as we think about the awesomeness of Jesus!
Prayer: Dear Lord in Heaven, thank You for the wonder of Jesus. We know Him to be fully God and fully human. Jesus had the power to call all angels to His side, but He chose to walk on this earth with people living as they lived. He did this so we could know Him as a brother, friend, and teacher. He sacrificed His life for us to know Him as our Savior, Lord, and King. All glory to You, King Jesus! Amen.
