Begin with two minutes of stillness and silence before God.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Maybe my tiredness looks different than yours. Maybe your weariness is from physical exertion, but maybe it comes from a tired soul. Maybe you have grown tired from wondering what more there is in life for you or seeking your purpose.
This verse in Matthew 11 says, “Come to me ALL who are weary and burdened and I WILL give you rest.” What does your petition for help to our Father look like? Do you take time to share your heart with Him through prayer? Do you give Him a fair share of your time by disconnecting from the very things that drain you?
In this particular verse, Jesus is inviting people to lay down their burdens—whether spiritual, emotional, or physical—and find rest in Him. It's one of the most compassionate and comforting invitations in the Bible. He’s speaking to people who were exhausted—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—especially under the heavy weight of religious law, societal expectations, and life’s struggles. The Jewish people were burdened by the strict interpretations of the law imposed by the Pharisees.
Jesus contrasts this with His way, which is rooted in grace, mercy, and relationship rather than performance and ritual. In the verses following (Matthew 11:29–30), He continues by saying:
“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Find rest in Him today.
Take two minutes to reflect in silence.
