Begin with two minutes of stillness and silence before God.

In Matthew 9:2, we read that Jesus forgives the sins of a paralyzed man and heals him.

I don’t know about you, but when I look back at the miracles of the Bible, at first glance, they can seem so far removed from the reality of today, but… are they really?

Just this morning, I was looking back over my prayer journal from 2018, and in those days, I was praying prayers of lament over my son, who was fighting a terrifying battle with addiction. I was praying for the Lord to restore him from this awful bondage and give him a purpose and a life worth living. There’s nothing like being a mom and hearing your child so broken, searching for a purpose in a life that seems devoid of color.

But God. In July 2022, God would change all that.

That was when he entered a Christian rehabilitation program. Within weeks, I could see the color come back into his spirit. He exuded JOY, and his spirit was full of light and life.

Today he lives a life of purpose. He has found his rhythm in a relationship with God. He seeks His face in everything he does. He is involved in a career of recovery, giving back through helping others. He is working on a degree in counseling to continue to help others, and just recently, he has been searching his heart in obedience to what he believes is a calling for mission work.

So, is God still in the business of miracles? Absolutely.

Do you have a prayer today that seems too big for God?

Friend, I can tell you that no matter how long you continue to pray, just keep praying. God hears the longings of a praying mama’s heart, and he will hear the longings of your prayers as well.

Back to today’s scripture. Because of the faith of the friends who brought the paralyzed man to Jesus, this man was healed. Remember to pray believing that your prayer will be answered. God is still in the miracle business, and He hears your pleas.

Take two minutes to reflect in silence.
Reflection:
  • Use the S.O.A.P. Method to study God’s Word.
  • SCRIPTURE: What stands out to you in today’s passage?
  • OBSERVATION: What is this text saying? What is the context? How does it fit with the verses before and after it? Are there any commands, instructions, or promises?
  • APPLICATION: How can you apply this verse to your life? What does this mean today? What is God saying to you?
  • PRAYER: Respond to the passage in prayer. Ask God to help you apply this truth to your life and spend some time listening to what He may be telling you.
