Begin with two minutes of stillness and silence before God.

In Psalm 18, David reminds us that God is a rock, an unshakable foundation. David knows firsthand how true God is to His word and how mighty his power is against His enemies. He witnessed the Lord’s power firsthand when He delivered David from his enemies and Saul. We can rest assured that God hears our prayers, and He will be with us, defending us always just like He did for David. No matter how dire our circumstances may seem, we can cry out to God with confidence and trust that He listens and will act according to His perfect will. It’s comforting to know that we don’t have to face life’s hardships alone. God is with us every step of the way. He is, as David calls Him, our rock and deliverer. He is a solid, immovable foundation and a place of refuge. He is actively intervening between us and our enemies to deliver us from evil.

God does not stand from a distance, and he is not indifferent to our struggles. He is actively involved and moves with divine authority to bring deliverance. He is faithful to the righteous. While none of us can achieve perfect righteousness on our own, through Christ, we are made righteous before God. Because of Jesus, we can experience the same faithfulness and steadfast love that David celebrates in this psalm. It’s awesome to think that the same God who David was praising then is the same God we know today. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. His love is faithful, and it never wavers. The Lord gives us the tools and the ability to persevere, overcome obstacles, and fulfill His purpose for us if we keep our focus on Him and His will.

Let us, like David, live with hearts full of gratitude, trusting in God as our rock and deliverer. No matter what challenges we face, we can rest on the promise that He is faithful to save those who follow Him. He is both the rock that provides security and a force that delivers us from our enemies. Let us never stop proclaiming the good news and giving the Lord all of the praise and glory because He is both our stability and our salvation. As believers, we trust Him to hold us steady and lead us through every obstacle because He is our rock and deliverer. Any victory we experience in life ultimately comes from God!
